Chateau de Vizille, France

Every summer, we visit my husband’s family in France. There is not much to do in the country, but thankfully we have Chateau de Vizille to visit about 15 minutes away and about a half hour drive from Grenoble.  The first time I went, we visited the Museum of the French Revolution inside the castle.  Educational and full of classic art depicting the times, this museum feels like a well-kept secret. Even if you are not a history buff, this was a fascinating tour.

The grounds themselves are stunning, with a lake of swans and fish, a bucolic bridge, manicured gardens to walk through, a great playground for kids, pony rides, and even peacocks!

Chateau de Vizille is a great laid back place for a family to come for a picnic. There is also a stage for shows (I have never been there when a show was going on) and a carousel at the entrance (and an ice cream place depending on when you go).  It’s also a lovely spot for a date as it is set in a small village with restaurants right across the street.

If you are ever in the area, it is definitely worth a visit. Entrance to the park is free.

  1. Living in Grenoble, I always take visitors to Vizille … it is just such a relaxed and lovely place to pass the time and the musée is very interesting for those that want to exercise their minds a little too. Your pictures and post are wonderful and I am sure that you will encourage others to seek out this lovely spot 🙂
