Family Cooking Class in Porto, Portugal

Every summer, we visit family in France and tack on a trip somewhere new that we have yet to discover and try to include a cooking class as well. Past trips included a farm to table cooking experience in Tuscany and a market to table experience in Barcelona, each featuring classic dishes from the region. Sorry, Scotland…we were not inspired to take a class on fish and chips or haggis.

This year, we visited Portugal and so took a class at Work Espaco Criativo that incimg_1946luded cooking Bacalao or Bacalhau (salted cod) and of course, a little port wine to taste. The menu was as follows: Salted Cod “Bras” Style, Bread Stuffed with Sausage, Chorizo, and Island Cheese (a literal translation from Portuguese, I believe it was Emmental), and Leite Creme (the classic Portuguese dessert comparable to flan or creme brulee).

The kids had a blast getting to cook and try their own food. Our chef/instructor, Yves, was super friendly, great with the kids, and knowledgeable. They set us up with everything we needed and walked us (mostly them) through each step.

Yves had kids of his own and so knew how to work with ours. He also spoke English, French and Portuguese, so no need to worry about a language barrier.

If you ever make it to Porto, this is definitely worth your time!
